A drummer from Ottawa skimped on a 1968 Joni Mitchell cassette recorded by Jimi Hendrix

An Ottawa-based drummer with a passion for collecting reel-to-reel ribbons deserves a round of applause for the upcoming release of Joni Mitchell's performance, recorded over half a century ago by none other than guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix.

A 1968 impromptu recording of thriving singer and songwriter Mitchell at Le Hibou coffee shop in the capital has long been a subject of pop music, as evidenced by Hendrix's diary.

But the fate of the tape remained a mystery for decades.
